Great Sweep – an arc and a diagonal caught mid-motion
Huge dark chocolate gestures on pale warm grey, caught mid-swing: a broad arc sweeps from the upper left across the top and curls down the right side, while the main diagonal bar cuts the canvas from the upper left to the lower right through the centre.
Technique & Texture
The inner edge of the arc is dry-brushed, and scratchy traces run in its bowl. This is a hand-painted art painting – at the lower left three strokes meet in a knot like an asterisk, and vertical bars drop to the bottom edge at the centre and the right.
The Motif
Thin whip-curves flick from the top edge, and the ground stays most open at the left middle and the middle right – the white spaces are as important as the strokes, full and empty in conversation. The sweep is still going: the painting is a photograph of movement.
