Description

Golden Stone – an excavated tablet

A single gold-and-umber tablet, standing almost the full height on a lavender-grey plaster, like an excavated stone: the tablet sits slightly left of centre, with organically broken edges and a clear notch cut into its right flank in the upper third.

Technique & Texture

Inside, the brightest hammered gold stretches across the top third and darkens progressively downward through rust into a deep umber at the foot, crossed by horizontal scratched bands. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the tablet carries the real rough texture of stone.

The Motif

A dark shadow clings to its lower right edge, and the ground is a cool lavender-grey plaster, slightly darker in the corners. A lone form on a calm ground: a stone given weight by the emptiness around it.

Styling & Placement

An art painting for bedrooms, living rooms and offices; the gold-umber tablet draws the eye, and the cool ground calms it. Wall art for rooms that love one strong form.
