Earth and Sky – a coastal panorama in bands
A coastal panorama in horizontal bands – a pale sky, a gold shore band, foaming blue water and a rust earth base, all in heavy impasto: the sky above is a pale blue-white knife impasto with dark navy cloud masses pressing in at both side edges, and beneath it a gold-ochre flecked band stretches across the full width, brightest right of centre.
Technique & Texture
In the gold band a small light-blue speck sparks left of centre. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the water band is light blue with a heavy white foaming impasto through the middle, densest at the centre.
The Motif
At the left edge of the water is a charcoal cluster of dashes, to the right a dark navy submerged patch, and at the lower centre a soft yellow glow; the earth base along the bottom carries rust, sienna and amber sparks that darken toward the lower right corner. A multi-layered coastal panorama, where the blue of sky and sea embraces the gold and rust bands of land.
