Blossoms III – A Meadow of Lollipops in Every Colour
A joyful panoramic painting: dozens of round, spirally painted blossoms on thin dark stems – red, scarlet, golden yellow, violet, blue, teal, and green – like a meadow of lollipops swaying in the wind. Among them spill clusters of tiny white dots, densest at the upper left, the centre, and the right.
Technique & Texture
Each blossom is painted in a spiral with dense paint, the stems are thin wiry strokes, and the white dots are tiny impasto peaks. It is a hand-painted artistic painting – the artist drew each of the dozens of thin stems individually, without a stencil.
The Motif
The background is divided into moods: a dark grey-blue upper left corner, a mossy green left centre, a glowing white-gold at the top middle like a source of light, a strong red field at the upper right, and deep blue at the lower right. At the base the stems thicken into a shadowy band of earth.
