Above the Lines – a city silhouette hanging from the sky
Vertical stripes of colour on a silver-white, scratched ground: the columns of paint do not stand on the ground but hang from the upper edge like icicles. From left to right follow a deep red that darkens to wine at its foot, an orange column, a teal stripe, a light azure-blue line, a second orange right of centre – and the right third in anthracite-black columns threaded with white.
Technique & Texture
The ground is silver-white plaster with fine black scratches, across which the colours are pulled in streams of unequal length. This is a hand-painted work of art – each stream ends at its own height, as if the paint were still creeping down the canvas.
The Motif
The stripes read as an inverted city silhouette: the warm, lighter left half and the darker right with anthracite meet in a rhythm reminiscent of skyscrapers against an evening sky. Two orange columns and a solitary teal stripe give the composition its melody.
