Body Beside Body – three dark arcs on fire
Painting on canvas catches three heavily simplified figures mid-movement — the first leaning left, the second standing centrally with arms thrown wide, the third stooped at the lower right: abstract painting in effect, because the bodies are nearly black and each head is marked by one white dot and nothing else. The ground behind is hot and restless, red and orange and gold.
Technique and texture
The colour is set down with a knife in wide flat tiles that do not blend, so every pass stays legible as its own plane. The bodies are worked in dark dense deposits with white light dragged across them on a narrow tip. Underneath, the paint is built from short crossing strokes that never repeat the same way twice.
The motif
None of the figures has a face, and the arms and legs are drawn out into thin bent arcs. The movement is read from posture rather than detail: the bodies are turned the same way, as though following one another. Cool blue-green planes appear along the left and upper right edges and hold the hot middle inside a frame.
