Golden Fissure – a limestone wall with a gold vein
A cream limestone wall, threaded with vertical trickles and hairline cracks, split at the right into a dark fissure zone where gold breaks through – geology with a treasure vein: the white cream plaster carries fine vertical rain-traces, and thin wiry cracks wander across the lower left and upper left.
Technique & Texture
A dark vertical fissure zone separates the right slab from the top edge downward, and the gold glows in two places: in a patch at the mid-right and in the main broad vein at the lower mid-right, above a black mass in the lower right corner. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – a grey shadow gathers beneath the gold that stands out from the surface.
The Motif
White impasto clouds gather in the upper right corner, where the wall is brightest. A limestone layer that time has split and laid gold into the crack – a treasure vein hidden in the wall.
