Yellow Figure – a seated woman in colour planes
A seated woman as one yellow silhouette among brown, terracotta and blue planes, with a white loop and a black wire line floating over all – in the spirit of Picasso: the yellow silhouette sits left of centre, its neck bending at the top into a small cream face with a drawn eye and lips.
Technique & Texture
Two cream hands meet at the chest, and the yellow runs out to a point at the lower left. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – behind the figure stands a dark brown mass of a chair-back, terracotta planes of an armchair are on the right, and a terracotta stool below.
The Motif
A blue horizontal zone lies across the lower half, surrounded by a beige wall ground. A white loop winds from the shoulder through the figure to the lower edge, and a black wire line curves from the right of the face and ends in a drawn foot at the lower right – a drawing that brings the planes to life.
