Description

White Roses – three heads in soft light
Painting on canvas unfolds three white roses far enough to show every turn of every petal: decorative painting worked so closely that the handling disappears and only the flowers are left.
Technique and texture
The colour is laid smooth and in thin coats with no visible stroke — the passages between white, cream and shadow grey are softly fused. The light is painted as very bright petal edges and the shadow as a cooler grey inside the folds. The ground is deliberately blurred, which pushes the flowers forward.
The motif
The largest rose is at the lower centre and is the most fully open, its heart a warm peach. A second stands upper left, a little more closed, and a third to the right, turned aside. Three green buds rise between them on thick stems. The ground is a soft cream with green and ochre patches and no drawing in it at all.
Setting and placement
Soft and light, this suits a bedroom, a living room or a dining room. White and cream agree with any wall colour, so the picture places no limit on the furniture around it.
