Description

Fields and Stripes – panoramic geometry in stucco neutrals
A panoramic composition of blocks without symmetry yet with balance: a grey-white plaster block of sky at the upper left above a taupe strip, a heavy black mass at the lower left, a grey pillar at the centre, and – the largest and warmest – a pink-beige field right of centre running down to the bottom edge.
Technique & Texture
The blocks are plastered in stucco neutrals, and thin scratched diagonal lines cross their joints over the upper centre – the only element of motion in a calm architecture. This is a hand-painted work of art – each block has its own grain and its own edge.
The Motif
At the right edge stands a second black block, and beneath it a tiny pale turquoise sliver surprises – the smallest and most precious colour of the painting. The lower right corner is closed by a slate grey-blue wedge, and above right of centre a cream-white block.
