Golden Vertical – a ray through the deep blue
Vertical combed strands of deep navy over cream white – and through them one single thin golden line that runs unbroken the full height, right of centre, like a ray of light through the dark.
Technique & Texture
The whole canvas is built from thick vertical ribbed strokes laid with the knife; where the blue dries over the white, cracked skins form. This is a hand-painted work of art – the golden line slips unbroken between the blue strands, which is possible only in a single stroke.
The Motif
The blue mass has two lobes – an upper block on the left and at the centre, and a lower one shifted to the right – and between them the canvas pinches at mid-height like an hourglass. A cream-white column holds the left third, and white gaps open at the middle of the right side as well.
