Technique & Texture
The texture is the whole event of the painting: the shadows between the dabs move with the angle of the light, so the painting is not the same in the morning and in the evening. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – pale cream tints drift here and there through the white, warmest at the upper left and along the middle left edge.
The Motif
The green border is widest at the top and at the bottom, narrower at the sides, and the edge of the white field is ragged and laps unevenly over the green – frame and content interweave rather than separate. Along the bottom edge runs a grey blurred line.
