Ballerina in the Dark – a dance between realism and abstraction

Technique & Texture

The Motif
The background is a grey brushed field, brightest in the halo around the upper body and the light, and faint blue sky patches open in both upper corners; below seventy percent of the height lies a darker slate floor band with blue-grey strokes and a shadow beneath the pointe. A contrast of the figure’s realism and the abstract ground, where the dance rises from darkness toward light.
