Description
Sailboat at Dawn – a morning sea in impression
A square impressionist seascape – a white-gold sailboat left of centre on a rolling teal sea, a pale sun right of centre with a golden path of light and rays of peach clouds: the sailboat at a quarter of the width sails to the left, its two white-gold triangular sails catching the low morning light, and a small bow wave foams at the hull.
Technique & Texture
The pale white-gold sun disc sits low over the horizon at the centre-right, wrapped in a layered peach-gold-white cloud impasto, and cloud streaks radiate across the light blue sky. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – a golden path of light runs from the horizon beneath the sun down toward the lower centre-left, breaking into a heavy gold-flake impasto on the crests.
The Motif
The sea is teal and steel blue, worked with the knife, darkest at the lower left and along the bottom, with white foaming crests throughout – rolling, but not stormy; soft green-mint patches lie in the clouds right of the sun. Morning light, where the sailboat and the rising sun meet across the golden path on a living sea.
Styling & Placement
A soothing decorative painting for living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms; the morning sea refreshes, the golden light warms. Wall art for lovers of the sea and of quiet.
