Description
Blue Spring – orange sparks in a cold field
Painting on canvas sparks orange and rust across a cold blue-grey field that takes most of an upright canvas — wall art balanced so exactly between a cold ground and a warm accent that neither wins.
Technique and texture
The ground is built from many thin layers that dried into a grainy, faintly cracked surface. The orange sparks are set with a narrow blade and stand above it as small lumps. Flicked white travels the full width and, where it lands thickest, slides a little way down.
The motif
A bright core sits in the upper third and the colour cools from there toward the foot. The sparks gather in a pair of groups set at an angle to each other. Because no shape is given an outline the scene stays open and reads as light in water. A narrow mallow band runs down the left edge from top to bottom, and the lower half darkens into deep green and violet.
Setting and placement
A cold base carrying warm sparks stays calm even in a room that already has strong colour in it, which is the useful part. Tall and narrow, it fits where the wall is left over rather than chosen.
