Flowers IV – three blue heads among bamboo stems
Wall art sows three blue flowers into a band of upright bamboo-like stems, giving each of them six narrow petals, a white-lit middle and a small dark eye: painting on canvas where blue is the only cool colour and is used as an accent rather than a scheme.
Technique and texture
Each petal was raised out of the paint and rimmed with a gold line that separates it from everything behind. The lower band is short vertical strokes of two different blues that never quite merge, and the band pulses because of it. Above them the surface was floated smooth and then scratched with a fine tip, so those marks are incised rather than painted on.
The motif
The middle flower is the largest and opens straight out; the left one is smaller and tips to the side, and the right turns obliquely away. Copper-gold leaves grow from the stems, narrow and pointed, opening downward. Small gold-dotted squares are spread across the ground, two at the upper left and three more in the band below.
Setting and placement
Because the blue is an accent and not the scheme, it will not force the rest of the room to follow it. Pale wood suits it, and so does a bathroom or a bedroom with real daylight in it — the gold rims need light to show at all.
