In Space X – overlapping circles and one gold ring
Wall art piles overlapping circles across the whole surface in red, ochre, beige and grey, cutting two dark red ones into the top edge and setting two pale yellow dotted ones below them: painting on canvas whose single closed circle is a ring drawn in thick gold above the middle.
Technique and texture
The gold ring was laid as a raised kneaded line and then burnished, so it casts its own shadow whenever the light comes from the side. The other circles are outlined with thin dark lines pulled in one sweep, doubling where the hand went round again. Beneath them lie translucent layers with tiny marks scratched in, and those show only from close to.
The motif
The circles overlap so densely that almost no bare ground survives between them, and not one of them is whole — each is cut either by a neighbour or by the edge. Inside the gold ring the colour is darker and denser than anywhere outside it, which turns the ring into a window rather than a shape. The composition is a crop, and it plainly carries on past all four edges.
Setting and placement
Because this is a close view, the motif holds up on a smaller wall than most abstractions need. Relief like this shifts through the day, so hang it where light arrives from the side rather than head on; a lamp square in front of it flattens the gold.
