Autumn Walk 2 – a misty avenue with a double lamp
An autumn avenue sunk in mist: in the right foreground stands an ornate black candelabra lamp post with two glowing white lanterns, and across it, from the tree on the right, reach branches with orange, red and yellow knife-laid leaves. Everything else is a soft grey-white distance.
Technique & Texture
The leaves are laid on in thick relief facets, the mist in soft, blended transitions. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the contrast between the sharp relief of the leaves and the soft mist is only possible with brush and knife in the same hand.
The Motif
In the middle of the left half, in the middle distance, a tiny dark figure with an umbrella walks away – alone in the misty avenue, where the trees on the left dissolve into ghosts. The wet grey path beneath the lamp and the figure carries warm reflections – gold, orange and red vertical touches; at the lower right the reddish edge of a bench is hinted.
