A Walk in Autumn 3 – an empty bench beneath a lamp
A scene of quiet expectation: a wooden bench with a warm brown seat and wrought-iron legs stands right of centre in the lower third, facing the viewer – and empty. To its left rises a black candelabra lamp post with two lanterns glowing a pinkish-white light.
Technique & Texture
The autumn foliage is a mosaic of knife facets: oranges and golds dominate on the right and above, while at the middle of the left half a cool band of blue-lilac fragments surprises; green-yellow fragments in between. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – every facet has the sharp, real edges of relief.
The Motif
The ground is wet; beneath the lamp and the bench, golden reflections gather like puddles of light. Beside the bench grows a thin dark young tree; there are no figures – the bench waits, the lamp shines, and the viewer is invited to finish the scene alone.
