The Blue – molten gold and cobalt in a wet night
A night field of streams: in the upper left quarter an amber-gold glow burns and creeps downward, while the right half is flooded by a cobalt-blue cascade, brightest at the upper right of centre. Between and beneath them lies an almost black, wetly dark void.
Technique & Texture
All the strokes run vertically, as if the paint truly crept down a wet surface. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the streams are real traces of liquid paint, stopped at exactly the right moment.
The Motif
Across the middle of the canvas runs a restless horizontal seam where gold and blue interweave – the only place where the two bright worlds touch. In the lower half they fade out: grey-white streams at the lower left, blue ones at the lower right, ever quieter toward the bottom.
