Wall art masses blue and white flowers into a wide oval across the middle of a landscape canvas and gathers the stems beneath it into a dark brown fan — painting on canvas whose entire force is the density of the heads.
Technique and texture
Each petal is one stroke of the blade, set down and lifted, so the colour stays thick and cut off sharply. The flowers overlap in several layers and stand some millimetres above the canvas in places. The ground is the opposite, combed smooth in horizontal bands, which pushes the bouquet further forward.
The motif
Two kinds of flower alternate through the mass: large white and pale blue heads with a yellow centre, and small deep cobalt ones between them. The oval is densest at its middle and loosens at the rim into single heads. The ground is silver grey and gold, worked like an old plastered wall.
Setting and placement
The heads stand several millimetres proud, so side light is what turns the bouquet from an image into an object. Because the ground is a worked neutral it agrees with almost any wall colour, while the blue mass supplies the single point of focus.
