Wall art files a row of dark trees across an exceptionally wide and low format and stands them above a level sheet of water: painting on canvas cut to the proportion of the view rather than of the wall.
Technique and texture
The sky is painted in soft blurred transitions with no visible stroke, like dispersed colour. The trees are the opposite — the thin trunks are pulled with one sharp line each and the canopies are dabbed on in small touches. The water is smooth and even and is broken only by the reflections.
The motif
The row of trees runs the whole width and none of them is brought forward, so the eye travels sideways instead of into depth. The straight shoreline divides the canvas into two equal bands. The reflection is brighter and more colourful than the trees themselves, which turns the scene upside down; behind them the sky goes from red and violet on the left through a gold middle to green on the right.
Setting and placement
A strongly elongated crop is the advantage here rather than the constraint — it fills the narrow horizontal sections that defeat most pictures. Over a bed head or a long chest it behaves like a calm window.
