Ornament – a black-and-white composition with a single red event
A considered panoramic composition in black, white and grey with one single shining event: at the centre floats a large lacquer-red broken ring in the shape of the letter C, with its gap at the lower left – like a seal missing its final stroke. Technique & Texture
The ground is white-grey plaster with charcoal smudges and spray, while the red ring is smooth and glossy with dark edges. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the contrast between the matte ground and the ring’s lacquer sheen is physical, not printed.
The Motif
