This abstract painting is darkly magnificent: in a strict two-tone world of navy-black and silver white, two massive dark masses meet in the upper half, and between them a white wedge cuts in like a seam of light. It reads like a geological cross-section – tectonics caught on canvas.

The relief here is exceptionally deep: ridges drawn with a palette knife and combed, stucco-like strokes build an almost sculptural surface. The white, caught in the cracks and ridges, shines like snow on rocky slopes – rare, precious, and convincing.
