Sunrise II – a river in the fire of dawn
A fiery waterscape: red-orange sky and water merge into one continuous heat, cooled only by the green islands of riverside growth. At the centre of the horizon glows the white-gold light of the sun, spilling into a broad golden column of reflection that runs straight down the middle of the water to the lower edge.
Technique & Texture
The whole sky is covered in a dense, cracked impasto texture, while the water is built from strokes pressed in with a palette knife. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the cracks in the paint are real, and each one catches the light in its own way.
The Motif
Green-gold islands of shrubbery punctuate the scene: a large one left of centre along the shoreline, a tall one on the right bank, small tufts at the far left and lower right. The horizon between them is a dark reddish band – the border between a sky on fire and water burning back.

The fiery river of Sunrise II is painted in 17 landscape sizes, from 45 x 30 to 260 x 175 cm. Over a sofa of around 200 cm the golden column of reflection wants 130 x 85 or 140 x 93 cm, over a 160 cm bed 110 x 73 cm, above a dining table for six 120 x 80 cm, and on a long hallway wall 160 x 105 cm.
The first photograph shows the painting on a studio easel in an optional thin light-wood frame, and the second photograph views it at an angle so the cracks in the red sky show. With YES in the Stretcher menu, the canvas with its green islands arrives stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready for the wall. That frame is not included, and the first option in the Frame menu is Without frame. Delivery takes 15–45 days. The cracked impasto sky is hand-painted, and the river is not a print.
