Blue Symphony – a cobalt core in light
Decorative painting deepens a pale blue field with a cobalt core rising up the left half of the canvas from the foot toward the middle — wall art read best as a single study of one colour across its whole range.
Technique and texture
One dense sweep carries the cobalt, so the furrows of the blade stay visible inside it. Thin coats make the paler planes, and a darker ground shows wherever they thin out. Between the core and the bright part a few black and dark blue patches act as shadow.
The motif
The core is the only saturated place, and every colour around it lightens by degrees, so the canvas looks lit from the right. The planes are arranged in loose horizontal bands that shift against one another. White, grey-blue and pale violet overlap without hard borders, and barely visible pink tones along the right edge soften the whole.
Setting and placement
The blue here is drawn out from almost white to cobalt, which is what makes it a study rather than a statement. On a light wall its palest passages read most clearly.
