Golden Line – silver plaster and a dripping golden thread
A silver-grey plaster field with a single golden event: about a third below the upper edge, a broken band of leaf gold runs the full width, heavier on the left, and from its centre a golden thread drips and trickles in hanging clots toward three quarters of the height.
Technique & Texture
The greys are layered like polished concrete, the gold laid on in leaves and flecks. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the golden thread is the real trace of liquid gold that was allowed to run and to stop.
The Motif
Above the band float scattered gold flecks; below it the field grows calm: a bright silver-white patch left of centre just under the band, a darker smoky grey-blue cloud on the right at mid-height, and fine webs of cracks at the lower left and lower right. A pale sheen covers the top of the canvas.
