Description
‘Flowers in a Vase II’ brings whiteness — the white flowers with yellow-gold centres are larger and more open than in the related work, and their purity comes through all the more in contrast with the mosaic background. This time the background is asymmetric: the left side is in a warm copper-gold mosaic texture, the right in a cooler white-silver, giving the painting a slight two-part quality and tension. The vase is of the same dark brown tessellated style. The impasto technique gives the flowers volume and materiality — these are flowers you could almost touch. A decorative painting for a living room or bedroom that wants a combination of warm-cool and floral prestige.
