Description
Grey Rain – hundreds of vertical strings in white
A hypnotic field of vertical lines: hundreds of thin dark strokes, pulled with a comb across a white-grey ground, fall across the upper two thirds of the canvas like rain or the strings of a harp. The lines waver slightly, break or skip in places – the field breathes, it is not mechanical.
Technique & Texture
The ground is white-grey plaster with a greyish blurred zone at the upper left, and the lines are drawn in parallel, gently swaying sweeps. This is a hand-painted work of art – every skip and every broken string is the trace of a hand, not of a pattern.
The Motif
At roughly two thirds of the height the lines condense into a darker compressed horizontal band with a thin dark rule at its upper edge, then end in an uneven fringe – like the hem of a fabric. The lowest fifteen percent is a clean, empty white base that gives the whole rain its ground and its silence.

Grey Rain: sizes for narrow walls, stretcher and delivery
Grey Rain is an upright canvas in 13 sizes, from 40 x 60 to 180 x 230 cm. For the grey-white strings on a narrow wall beside a door or a bookcase choose 60 x 90 cm, 80 x 120 cm suits a 120 cm console, and a stairwell with a high ceiling has room for 100 x 150 or 120 x 155 cm. The first photograph shows the lower corner of the canvas on linen, with the empty white base and the fringe of lines, and the second photograph is a close-up of the vertical furrows pulled with a comb.
Choose YES in the Stretcher menu and Grey Rain comes stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready to hang. Grey Rain has no frame unless you add one in the Frame menu, which starts at Without frame. Delivery takes 15–45 days. Combed into thick white plaster, Grey Rain is hand-painted, every broken string the trace of a hand, so this painting is not a print.
Grey Rain before you buy
Which size of Grey Rain suits a stairwell?
Under a high stairwell ceiling choose 100 x 150 or 120 x 155 cm, so the band of dense lines lands near eye level.
Does Grey Rain arrive ready to hang?
Yes, with YES in the Stretcher menu the canvas of grey strings arrives stretched on a wooden stretcher.
Is Grey Rain a print?
No, each of the hundreds of thin lines was pulled by hand with a comb, so the gaps and breaks differ on every canvas.
