Blue Semicircle – one form, one gesture
A single massive navy-slate arc in heavy impasto commands the cream-white canvas: it enters at the top edge, bulges right almost to the border and lands at the lower left, where its foot spreads along the bottom edge. The opening of the letter C looks to the left – a white pocket inside the arc.
Technique & Texture
Through the middle of the arc run parallel combed grooves that follow the curve like sculptural ribs; the edges crumble dry into the white, and the lower mass is the heaviest and roughest. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the grooves are drawn into a fresh, thick layer.
The Motif
