Sand and Turquoise – a horizon in a dark vignette
A two-part colour field like a view of the sea from the shade: a sandy beige field above, mottled and warmest at its centre, a turquoise-blue field below, and both embraced by a deep black-brown vignette, heaviest at the corners and the bottom edge – a dramatic frame for a calm horizon.
Technique & Texture
The turquoise field hides a pale mosaic within itself: soft vertical and horizontal seams divide it into five or six pale blocks, and it darkens toward its lower corners. This is a hand-painted work of art – the transitions are rubbed in, not drawn.
The Motif
The horizon between the fields is not a dark line but a bright silver-white band with tiny white glints and a thin rust thread in its right half – brighter than both fields, like the last light between sea and sky.

Sand and Turquoise comes in 14 square sizes, from 40 x 40 to 180 x 180 cm. Over a 200 cm sofa, the sand and turquoise canvas at 130 x 130 cm covers about two thirds of its width. Above a 160–180 cm bed, 110 x 110 or 120 x 120 cm works well, over a 150 cm sideboard take 100 x 100 cm, and in a narrow hallway the silver horizon works at 60 x 60 cm.

Because the vignette is dark, a light wall or warm light from above does the painting good. Dust it with a dry soft cloth, and keep water and cleaners away from the rubbed fields.
