Forest and Light – a white core in green depth
Decorative painting rifts a white core diagonally through a deep green and turquoise field, from the upper right corner down to the lower left: abstract painting that arrives at the feeling of looking up through branches without painting a single one.
Technique and texture
The green ground is laid in broad vertical passes that open in places to show a lighter layer beneath. The white core is built from short overlapping blade sweeps with gaps left between them. Flicked white lies over everything as a fine net, catching where the green is deepest.
The motif
The diagonal of light cuts the canvas into two darker triangles, and that is what makes the depth. Small marks of yellow, orange and deep red sit inside that opening, and the surrounding depth makes them impossible to miss. Because there is neither a trunk nor an outline anywhere, the scene stays abstract and never becomes a wood. The edges darken into blue-green and grey.
Setting and placement
Green and turquoise are the two most restful colours in the range, and they live easily beside plants, timber and linen. The upright crop suits a tall window wall or a reading corner where it will be looked at slowly.
