Flowers II – four heads waving above a red band
Wall art aligns four vivid orange-red heads in a row above a red-brown band, each of them five heart-shaped petals around a gold-lit centre and a dark spherical core: decorative painting ordered by repetition rather than by any grid.
Technique and texture
Each petal was raised out of the paint, rimmed with a thin gold line and then smoothed, so the flowers stand clear of a surface that was left deliberately raw. Above them the ground is thick irregular slabs with the tool marks still in them. The twigs below were modelled one by one, strewn with tiny beads and whitened in places until they read as metal.
The motif
The heads do not sit level: the first and the last stand higher and the middle two drop, so the row rises and falls. Narrow pointed leaves grow from the stems in the same orange-red as the petals. Above the centre two twigs cross with a thickened knot where they meet, and from across a room that crossing reads as the letter V.
Setting and placement
Repeating one head four times gives the eye something regular to hold, which is why a colour this saturated still looks composed. A long hallway wall takes it best, and neutral furniture underneath keeps the orange from having to compete for attention.
