This hand-painted Egon Schiele painting, Standing Girl, Back View, is an oil reproduction of a gouache from 1908. The original is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
What the sheet shows
The sheet shows a girl standing, seen from behind, in a blue cap and a blue dress that flares towards the hem. Her back and shoulders are left in a warm ochre, a white underskirt shows below the dress, and her legs are covered by reddish-purple striped stockings. The background is bare paper; the work is signed at the lower left.
The original’s medium and format
The original is gouache and watercolour on paper — the museum records it as “Gouache and watercolor over graphite on paper” — measuring 31.4 × 23.2 cm (inv. 1984.433.296).
Where it is
The work is today in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which received it through the Scofield Thayer bequest (inv. 1984.433.296).
