Silver Field – a window of light in frozen mist
A silver-grey weathered field, in whose upper half, left of centre, opens a bright silver-white window of light: built from horizontal scratched strokes, with pale bluish hints and veins of cracks, framed by grey-beige surroundings.
Technique & Texture
The surface is metal, frost and mist at once: scratched lines run horizontally and vertically, and two thin vertical cracks descend at a fifth and at a good three fifths of the width. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the light in the window is a furrowed relief, not a glow.
The Motif
Beneath the bright field, a darker grey blurred band crosses the full width, and the lower part calms into grey-beige with pale lighter streaks; the darkest are the lower left corner and the bottom edge. The whole breathes like a frozen breath on a windowpane.
