Grey Pebbles – a riverbed seen from above
Roughly fifteen pebbles scattered on white cracked plaster – a riverbed seen from above. Each stone is its own: a sage-teal oval with cracked veins at the upper left, a grey-beige oval cut by the upper right corner, and the largest – a dark grey-black egg on the right with teal hints at its top.
Technique & Texture
Some stones are sharp and dark, others barely shadows – a gradation that gives the bed its depth. This is a hand-painted work of art – the white ground is threaded with fine webs of cracks and grey scuffs where the water has already run.
The Motif
The lower left corner is cut by a charcoal pebble, and smaller ones scatter across the middle: a cluster of slate stones on the left, a round sage stone at the centre, an elongated grey pill right of centre, two smaller ones at the bottom and a tiny pure teal dot as an accent.
