Yellow Sweep – a fan of force over marble and grey
Four to five massive yellow-gold strokes stacked into a fan: the bundle enters at the top edge and descends in an arc toward the lower left, each stroke a hand-wide impasto ribbon with raised edges, and between them the white opens at the upper left.
Technique & Texture
The tail of the longest stroke reaches deep into the lower right. This is a hand-painted work of art – the ridges of paint are truly raised and in side light throw shadows that give the sweep a third dimension.
The Motif
The upper right corner is covered by a black-and-white marbled field from which black streaks drag into the yellow; the lower left is held by a grey diagonal streaked field with white spatter and one white spill below the centre. Force above, calm below – the sweep has somewhere to fall.
