Description
Storm on the Belle-Île Coast was painted in the autumn of 1886, during Monet’s stay on the Breton island. The sea is broken into white foam, the rocks are dark and wet, and the sky comes down low over the water. The painter worked there in rain and wind as well, with the canvas lashed to the rock.
The original is oil on canvas, 65.4 × 81.5 cm. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 3163.
