Claude MonetThe Cliff Walk at Pourville
Description
The Cliff Walk at Pourville was painted in 1882 on the Normandy coast near Dieppe. Two female figures stand at the grassy edge, and below them the sea opens out, scattered with small sails. The painter laid the grass in long, almost horizontal strokes, so that the wind seems to run across the whole canvas.
The original is oil on canvas, 66.5 × 82.3 cm. It is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, accession number 1933.443.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A bright coastal subject sits well in a living room or bedroom.

“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
