A series of paintings of nude female figures, which began to be created in 1916. The painter’s women on canvas are always directly frank and provocative, the artist shows them from close up and usually from above. A series of nude female figures caused quite a stir at an exhibition in Paris in 1917.
In this oil on canvas, Modigliani depicted a partially veiled female figure sitting cross-legged on a warm red blanket. The painting was sold at an auction in New York in November 2010 for almost EUR 50 million, making it the most expensive sold Modigliani painting to date.
