Jeanne Hébuterne, described by the writer Charles-Albert Cingria as gentle, shy, quiet and delicate, was the artist’s central muse and also his lover. After Modigliani contracted tuberculosis and died in 1920, a pregnant Jeanne threw herself from the fifth floor just one day later.
Modigliani depicted Jeanne in several paintings that depict the passionate and tragic relationship between the artist and his muse.
