Claude MonetCap Martin, near Menton
Description
Cap Martin, near Menton was painted in 1884 on the Mediterranean coast between Menton and Bordighera. Monet wrote of this light that for a northerner it is almost indecent: here the sea runs from blue to violet, and the pines on the headland stand dark and sharply cut against the sky.
The original is oil on canvas, 67.2 × 81.6 cm. It is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, accession number 25.128.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike.

“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
