The artist painted La Siene a Courbevoie in the summer of 1885, after finishing part of the painting La Grande Jatte. The view in the present picture is from the north side of the island of La Grande Jatte, stretching across the river towards the red roofs of the town of Courbevoie on the opposite shore.
