A young woman stands behind a wooden chair and rests both hands on its back. Her dress is grey-blue, the collar and cuffs are white lace, and a gold bracelet catches the light at her wrist. Her look passes by us to the left.
At the left stands a glass case of Egyptian figures; among them stands an upright mummiform figure on a reddish base. The upper wall is a dark decorated red, the lower part grey, and a bluish band runs between them.
Framed drawings and a picture in a yellow frame hang at the right, and at the lower left a pile of papers and portfolios lies on the table. Her father’s study is painted as a collection, and the woman stands in it without support.
