Description
Two dancers stand close together, both in green-turquoise skirts. One holds an orange fan – the only warm colour in the whole scene; the other has turned toward her and raised an arm.
Degas made this scene in pastel, not oil, and it shows: the colour lies in separate strokes, one over another, so the green of the skirts is not a smooth surface but a grainy fabric. The background is not a room but a curtain of the same green, out of which the figures only just step forward.
Our version is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas, made from the pastel original. Every canvas is painted individually, in the size and frame you choose.
