Claude MonetWaterloo Bridge, Sunlight Effect
Description
Waterloo Bridge, Sunlight Effect is from 1903 and shows the same bridge as the grey day, but at the hour when the sun breaks the fog. The water under the arch is then orange and green at once, and the factory chimneys on the far bank melt into the light. The painter made almost a hundred London canvases from the same window.
The original is oil on canvas, 65.7 × 101 cm, an elongated format. It is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, accession number 1933.1163.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. Warm oranges work well in a room that is seen in the evening.

Claude Monet
“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
