Claude MonetThe Tuileries Gardens
Description
The Tuileries Gardens was painted in 1875 from the window of an apartment above the park. The view falls away at an angle onto avenues and paths, roofs appear between the crowns of the trees, and an unsettled Paris sky sits over all of it. The painter was looking down on the city, which was still an unusual thing to do.
The original is oil on canvas, 50 × 74 cm. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 2705.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A city subject in greens and greys sits well in a living room or an office.

Claude Monet
“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
