Claude MonetCarrières-Saint-Denis
Description
Carrières-Saint-Denis was painted in 1872, the year Monet settled along the Seine. The village lies low on the bank, the houses are mirrored in the water, and the trees are not yet in full leaf. The strokes are sparse and quick; the painter leaves the canvas almost bare in places, which was unheard of at the time.
The original is oil on canvas, 61 × 81 cm. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 1674.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike. A quiet river subject sits well in an office or living room.

“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
