Claude MonetMorning on the Seine, near Giverny
Description
Morning on the Seine, near Giverny is from 1896 and belongs to the series Monet painted from his own boat, moored along a side channel of the river. He worked before dawn and stopped before the sun rose above the trees; the canvas is therefore almost without shadow, built from green, grey-blue and pale rose.
The original is oil on canvas, 73.7 × 93.0 cm. It is held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, accession number 39.655.
Our reproduction is a hand-painted oil painting on canvas. It is not a print. Every canvas is painted individually by an artist, so no two are ever exactly alike.

“As a painter I have done what I could, and that seems to me enough. I do not wish to be compared to the great masters of the past, and my painting belongs to criticism; that is sufficient.”
