Description
The Seine at Port-Villez shows the bend of the river opposite Vétheuil, where the painter lived for some years. The bank is low, the sky takes more than half the canvas, and the water takes up both and softens them. The exact year is not established: the source records a decade rather than a year, so none is given here.
The original is oil on canvas, 65.5 × 92.5 cm, an elongated format. It is held by the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, accession number RF 2009.
